This excursion explores the cultural, historical, and natural highlights of Oshawa, offering a well-balanced blend of gardens, museums, and urban life.
The day begins with a visit to the Oshawa Valley Botanical Gardens, a tranquil network of gardens set along Oshawa Creek. The gardens feature winding walkways, shaded groves, seasonal flowerbeds, a small Japanese-style rock garden, picturesque bridges, and contemporary outdoor sculptures. This peaceful urban oasis is ideal for relaxed strolls, photography, and enjoying nature in the heart of the city.
The tour continues with visits to Oshawa’s most significant cultural and historical landmarks. We explore Parkwood National Historic Site, the former residence of Robert McLaughlin, founder of General Motors of Canada. The grand mansion is renowned for its elegant interiors and beautifully designed formal gardens and is also widely recognized as a filming location for major films and television productions. Next, we visit the Canadian Automotive Museum, housed in a historic former car dealership. The museum presents one of the most important collections of Canadian automobiles, including the 1897 Fossmobile, classic McLaughlin-Buick models, and early electric vehicles.
We then continue to the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, home to more than 4,500 works of Canadian art displayed in spacious, light-filled galleries. Nearby public art installations further enhance the area’s creative atmosphere. Time is included to explore downtown Oshawa, centred along King Street, known for its lively setting, cafés, boutiques, and diverse dining options. Tourists may also choose to enjoy lunch at Oshawa’s central food hall, where multiple food vendors led by notable chefs, a cocktail bar, and flexible event spaces come together under one roof, creating a vibrant culinary destination.
After visiting Oshawa, we return to Toronto.
