Oxford County - The Dairy Heartland of Ontario

Oxford County
At the heart of Ontario’s agricultural landscape, Oxford County tells the story of Canada’s dairy traditions through its historic towns and rural heritage. This itinerary highlights the closely connected communities of Ingersoll and Woodstock, both deeply rooted in the development of Canada’s cheese-making industry.
The day begins in the charming town of Ingersoll, where rural traditions meet small-town elegance. We visit the Cheese & Agricultural Museum, which traces Oxford County’s farming legacy and its central role in the growth of Canada’s dairy industry. Tourists then have time to browse local specialty shops offering regional products and sweets, followed by a peaceful walk through a nearby park along a scenic pathway that leads directly into the town centre. Free time is provided for lunch at one of Ingersoll’s well-regarded local restaurants, known for their relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
In the afternoon, we continue to Woodstock, proudly known as the Dairy Capital of Canada. The visit includes a stop at a local cheese factory, where tourists can sample regional dairy specialties and learn more about the area’s long-standing cheese-making traditions. We then explore Woodstock’s beautifully preserved 19th-century downtown, widely regarded as one of the best-kept historic cores in Ontario. Time is included to enjoy the town’s atmospheric European-style cafés, ideal for a relaxed break.
Additional highlights include a visit to the Woodstock Art Gallery and the Woodstock Museum National Historic Site, offering insight into the town’s cultural and historical development. The itinerary concludes with time at the One of a Kind Antique Mall, Canada’s largest antique and collectibles centre, housed in a former textile factory and featuring three floors of unique finds.
The tour ends with the return journey.
