This carefully paced day combines gardens, waterways, and lakeside charm in the heart of Norfolk County, offering a relaxed and visually rich experience. The itinerary brings together nature, leisure, and local character in one of southern Ontario’s most distinctive regions.

The day begins with a visit to Whistling Gardens, one of Ontario’s most celebrated botanical gardens and a recipient of regional, provincial, national, and international awards. Set on 20 acres, the gardens feature more than 4,500 plant varieties and several internationally recognized collections. Highlights include the largest peony collection in North America, with thousands of plants ranging from herbaceous peonies to rare tree peonies and Itoh hybrids, as well as over 400 varieties of irises. The gardens also host the largest conifer collection in North America, with more than 1,800 cultivars, many unique in Canada, along with rare and endangered species such as the Baishanzu fir. Additional features include a bird aviary with swans and Egyptian geese, free-roaming heritage chickens, and one of the largest computerized musical fountain shows in Canada.

The tour continues to the lakeside town of Port Dover, located on the shores of Lake Erie. Tourists have free time to explore the lively waterfront promenade and pier, relax on the sandy beach lined with palm trees, browse local boutiques, or enjoy lunch at one of the cafés or restaurants near the harbour. A stroll through nearby Powell Park offers pleasant views of the lake and surrounding green spaces.

A highlight of the afternoon is a relaxing cruise on the Lynn River aboard a comfortable pontoon boat. As the boat glides along the calm, narrow river and into the Black Creek Nature Reserve, tourists enjoy views of waterfront homes, landscaped gardens, stone staircases, sculptures, private docks, and moored boats. The captain provides engaging live commentary, adding context and local stories to the experience. This scenic cruise is consistently one of the most memorable moments of the day.

After departing Port Dover, we return to Toronto.
