Caves & Caverns of the Blue Mountains

Blue Mountains

Dramatic escarpment landscapes define this exploration of the Blue Mountains, one of southern Ontario’s most visually striking natural regions, located along the Niagara Escarpment. The day combines geological features, elevated viewpoints, and time to enjoy a lively alpine-style village setting.

The tour begins at Scenic Caves Nature Adventures, located on the upper edge of the Niagara Escarpment within a UNESCO-designated biosphere reserve. Visitors explore a network of naturally formed limestone crevices and fissures shaped by glacial activity. These passages descend several storeys below ground level and are accessed via stairways and wooden walkways, offering an accessible introduction to the escarpment’s geological history rather than deep or technical caves. Along the surface trails, a series of lookout points follows the cliff edge, providing open views across the forested slopes below and, on clear days, toward Georgian Bay.

A highlight of the visit is the Suspension Bridge, the longest suspension footbridge in southern Ontario. Stretching approximately 420 feet in length and suspended about 82 feet above the forest floor, the bridge creates the sensation of walking high above the treetops. From this elevated crossing, tourists enjoy wide views of the surrounding escarpment landscape, forests, and, weather permitting, distant glimpses of Georgian Bay.

The day concludes with time at Blue Mountain Village, a pedestrian-friendly alpine-style resort at the base of the escarpment. Tourists have free time to explore its shops, cafés, and relaxed village atmosphere before the return journey to Toronto.
