OTTAWA TULIP FESTIVAL. DAY TRIP FROM TORONTO $145 Included: breakfast with khachapuri and vegetables 65+: $135 Children under 12: $125 The Canadian Tulip Festival began with a special gift. The Royal Family of the Kingdom of the Netherlands took refuge in Ottawa during the Second World War, and Her Royal Highness, Princess Margriet was born here in 1943. Two years later, Canadian troops played a key role in liberating the Netherlands. In gratitude, the Dutch government has sent Canada a gift of tulip bulbs every year since 1945, inspiring what has become the world's largest Canadian Tulip Festival. It celebrates the seasonal flower’s beauty and its historic ties to Canada’s capital. The outdoor event takes place at Commissioners Park, where over 300,000 tulips bloom alongside the Rideau Canal's picturesque Dows Lake. You will be able to take photos and selfies amongst the dozens of multicoloured garden beds; visit the heritage display to learn about the historic gift of tulips which led to the festival’s creation; shop for fresh cut flowers, crafts, art and more at the tulip boutique On May 14th, we will visit Commissioners Park and take a walking tour of downtown Ottawa, where we will be able to see the main landmarks of the nation's capital, including the historic ByWard Market, the National Gallery of Canada and the Maman Statue, Nepean Point, Notre Dame Basilica, Major's Hill Park, American Embassy, Fairmont Château Laurier, Rideau Canal Locks, Valiants Memorial, National War Memorial, Parliament Hill and the Supreme Court of Canada. We will walk along the famous Sparks Street outdoor Mall. Also, we will cross the Alexandra Bridge over the Ottawa River and come to the Canadian Museum of History grounds with breathtaking views of Parliament Hill. This trip is designed to make you feel comfortable and get the most out of your time in the Canadian capital during the Tulip Festival. You will have a variety of dining options and there are numerous cafes and restaurants nearby, not to mention the ByWard Market or the Ottawa's largest mall, Rideau Centre food court. 416-722-9043 647-673-7775 info@torontogf.com
